Add widescreen letterbox bars to your game with a single plugin command. The bars slide in smoothly from top and bottom — and the message window automatically moves to stay inside the safe zone, even mid-animation.

Key Features

🎬 Letterbox Bars

• Smooth slide animation. Bars ease in from the top and bottom edges. Fully controllable — show and hide on demand from any event.
• Per-command duration. Set a default slide speed in parameters, or pass a custom frame count directly in each plugin command call.
• Custom color. Any hex color. Black by default, but nothing stops you from going dark red for a horror sequence.

💬 Smart Message Window

• Auto-repositioning. The message window is clamped to the safe area between the bars on every frame — including during the slide animation itself.
• Namebox aware. The namebox stays anchored above or below the message window after clamping, so it never drifts out of position.

Plugin Parameters

Bar Height

• Default: 80px
• Height of each bar. Both bars are always the same height.

Bar Color

• Default: #000000
• Any hex color string.

Default Slide Duration

• Default: 30 frames
• Used when no duration is passed to the plugin command.

Plugin Commands

Letterbox: Show

• Slides the bars in. Takes an optional Duration (frames) argument.

Letterbox: Hide

• Slides the bars out. Takes an optional Duration (frames) argument.

How to Use

Call Letterbox: Show at the start of a cutscene and Letterbox: Hide when it ends. That's it. The message window handles itself — no manual repositioning needed. Want a faster or slower slide for a specific moment? Just pass a custom frame count in the command argument.

Technical Notes

• Bars are attached to Scene_Base, so they persist across scene transitions.
• Animation state is stored globally, so bar progress carries over if a scene is recreated mid-animation.
• No dependencies. Works out of the box with RPG Maker MZ.
